MESSY FAUX HAWK TUTORIAL

MESSY FAUX HAWK TUTORIAL

Tuesday, August 25, 2015

Hey girls! I'm excited about this tutorial. It's a slightly understated, and messy faux hawk. This undo is simple. You can do it in four steps! I naturally have very curly hair. I get it from my dad. Don't even ask about the good old days of his thick, curly mullet..
On days when I'm feeling really brave I amp this faux hawk up! You can begin it higher on your head and really fan the curls out for volume. I rock that on date nights ;)
Here's how you achieve the Messy Faux Hawk:

Before you begin, spray a little bit of Garnier's curl shaping gel onto your hands and scrunch into your hair. This is not absolutely necessary. I just really like the extra texture it gives the hair.

 YOU WILL NEED
| 1 small hair clip
| 3 hair elastics
| 10+ bobby pins

STEP 1: First start by adding a small pompadour to the front of your hair and securing ( temporarily ) in place with the hair clip.

STEP 2: Take your pointer fingers, and starting right in front of your ears, pull the sides of your hair up to meet the tail of the pompadour. Twist into a messy bun with a hair elastic. This in essence is a half up/half down top knot. Remove hair clip from base of pompadour.

STEP 3: Taking your pointer fingers again, start just below your ears and run them up to the crown of your head, separating the remaining hair. Twist this hair into a messy bun with a hair elastic. Grab the last bit of hair and twist into another messy bun with a hair elastic. When this step is all said and done, you should have three messy buns sitting atop your head. It will look ridiculous, but it gets the job done!

STEP 4: Loosen up those messy buns! Tug gently on the curls loosening things up a bit. This will add the lose volume that we're looking for, and give the faux hawk a bit of classy drama. Grab the bobby pins and pin the buns in place, pulling the second and third bun up toward the first. This will form the faux hawk. Push the bobby pin in toward the base of each bun to unsure that they are secure. Pin any lose curls in toward the center of the faux hawk.

+ Mist your hair with a little hairspray to keep flyways in place!

This faux hawk is super easy. I did it for this tutorial with no mirror! A little practice makes this a five minute updo. This messy faux hawk can be done in exactly the same way if you have curled your hair with a curling wand. I do suggest using thinner hair elastics if you do this with wand curled hair.

Let's talk hair in the comments! What is your stance on the faux hawk? Love or hate this look!? Do you have a go-to hairstyle?

Hello again! Let me just start by saying that I am super proud of myself right now. This is my second post this week which means I'm making good on my new years resolution to blog more consistently! Hoorah and hallelujah. Thumbs up emoji! So I headed downtown, grabbed a mochaccino ( i'm only a little addicted ), and skipped off to take some pictures for the blog.. while passers bye gawked. It was embarrassing. You just have to shake it off because the haters gonna hate.. hate, hate, hate. Has the time for Taylor Swift quotes passed?

One of the things that blogging has taught me is not to take myself so seriously. Relax and have fun has become my blogging motto! And isn't that when we are at our best, when we're having fun and just being ourselves. So relax and be playful with this life! We only get one. Put yourself out there, be authentic to who you are, laugh at yourself, and don't forget to smile at the family staring at you while you take pictures in the middle of the street ;)

Lately, I've been pairing booties with every dress that I own. If I have a signature look, it is definitely a dress and booties. These sassy grey booties from Exalted Heights are so fun! They're a lavender grey, and they have a chain that adds a little shimmer. They are just all kinds of fun. Cassie, from Exalted Heights is giving away a $50 store credit so you can have a sassy pair of booties too! Or a dress, or a new top, or jewelry.. the possibilities are endless! Enter the Rafflecopter below for a chance to win the $50 store credit. There are only six entries so it's easy peasy! Have a simply beautiful day!

BLUEBERRY MANGO SMOOTHIE

Hey y'all! I've been having some fun with my Ninja again. I really don't know what I would do without that little machine. I've put it through the ringer and it just keeps blending away! I try to maintain a healthy diet; Lean meats, fruits and veggies, you know the drill. I'm successful 95% of the time. There are minor infractions now and again, but, you know.. treat yo'self!

( Speaking of treats - This 3 Ingredient Mocha Frappe is an under 200 calorie treasure! It's delicious and guilt free, and angels sing when you drink it. Hallelujah!)

Back to what I was saying. I'm really not a fan of just sitting down and eating the necessary amount of fruit or veggies for a day. I like to get creative with it. Say.. blend it all together and call it a healthy fruit frappe? That works, right. If it sounds like a treat, it is a treat! Food, in all of its forms, should taste good. Really good. This blueberry mango smoothie (with a few hidden treasures i.e. spinach and raw coconut water ) is no exception! Plus, it's good for you. It is packed with antioxidants and nutrients that help repair and fuel your body.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

1 CUP FROZEN BLUEBERRIES

1/2 CUP FROZEN MANGO

1/2 CUP SPINACH

1/4 CUP RAW COCONUT WATER

1 CUP JUICE OF YOUR CHOICE

PREPARATION.
Place all of your ingredients in a blender, starting with the frozen fruit, spinach, then water and juice. I use half orange juice and half tart cherry juice. Blend for 30 seconds to 1 minute. Stick a straw in it and enjoy! It's that easy.  I use the Nutri Ninja blender with the single serving cup to make this smoothie.

The one cup of juice can be any juice that you prefer. Blueberry or Acai juice would be really good in this! Or go half and half. I personally really like the 1/2 orange juice, 1/2 tart cherry juice combo. They add a little zing!

This blueberry mango smoothie recipe will make just one generous smoothie. Feel free to double it up and make a small batch of this smoothie to share!

What is your favorite healthy recipe right now?
